Frequently Asked Questions
What is Habibi Jeebie?
An independent, free website with Middle Eastern recipes, a spice guide, a recipe unit converter and articles about food culture. See
About.
Do I need an account?
No. There are no accounts, logins or paid plans. Everything on the site is free to read and use.
How accurate is the recipe converter?
It uses standard US kitchen measures (1 cup = 236.6 ml, 1 tbsp = 14.8 ml, 1 tsp = 4.9 ml, 1 oz = 29.6 ml, 1 lb = 453.6 g). Converting volume to weight (for example cups to grams) treats the ingredient like water, so for flour, sugar or rice use a kitchen scale or an ingredient-specific chart.
Should I use dried or canned chickpeas?
For falafel, use soaked dried chickpeas — canned ones are already cooked and fall apart. For hummus, dried and cooked chickpeas give the smoothest result, but canned work in a hurry. Our
falafel guide and
hummus guide explain why.
Where can I buy za'atar, sumac or Aleppo pepper?
Middle Eastern, Turkish or Mediterranean grocers usually stock them, as do many large supermarkets and online spice shops. The
spice guide describes what to look for.
Are the recipes suitable for allergies or special diets?
Many dishes contain sesame (tahini), nuts, wheat or dairy. Recipes are general guidance only — always check ingredient labels and ask a qualified professional about allergies or medical diets. See the
disclaimer.
Do you offer cooking classes or catering?
No. Habibi Jeebie is an information site only and does not sell classes, catering or products.
